what is matariki?

The sun was seriously wounded and tired
of being pulled by the ropes.
He felt miserable and hid away
in his cave for several days.
The days grew colder and
colder and winter was born.
Plants could not grow and
people
were sick of the cold.
Maui felt guilty because people were
raged and wanted the sun to rise back.
Matariki was a cousin of the Sun.
Matariki  decided to go and bring
the Sun back. So Matariki and
her seven sisters went to
go and meet up with the Sun.
They sang a mysterious soothing
healing song until the Sun was
brightened and warm again.
Sun felt better and soon got healed.
He came out of his cave and gave this
world warmth and light. This is how the
Matariki Stars brought the sun back.
So every April when the seven sisters
disappear from the sky we know they
have gone to rescue the Sun.
They would be back early June and
bring the warmth of the sun to the
Earth.

fun facts about black footed ferrets

Only 18 black-footed ferrets existed in 1987, making it one of the most endangered animals in the world. In 1987 there were only 18 black footed ferrets left. Captive breeding was successful and produced enough young kits that they could be placed into other zoos for breeding and reintroductions back into the wild.

The ferrets are key indicators of healthy ecosystems as they help manage prairie dog populations. The ferrets themselves are a food source for larger predators like owls, coyote and badgers. They are important members of the ecosystem both as predators and prey on the prairie. ... Black-Footed Ferret Fact Sheet.

According to one legend.

AKO Evening

On Ako afternoon we shared what we have
been learning about in Room 6 during term 2.
We explained it to other classrooms at
Tamaki Primary School. Ako afternoon is
about sharing the work you have been doing,
with others.Classrooms shared literacy,
inquiry, reading, writing and maths.
Room 6 shared lots of things.
We shared the puppets we made
for retelling stories. We shared our
inquiry posters on New Zealand History.
We also shared a mural that we did for art,
to retell Maui’s legends. My favourite part
about Ako Afternoon was getting tokens
from the other classrooms for all our
good work.
